Mileage Monday

I hit 75 miles this week but they were all pretty slow miles. Nothing intense. I still do my strength work 3 times a week, and even though I hate doing it, I really notice a huge difference in my overall physical health. I used to blame a weak core for my recurring SI joint problems, but now I know it was from my lack of arm strength! Because when I’d bend over to pick up something heavy, my back would compensate for my arm weakness. I haven’t had any SI joint issues since I started working out my arms. Ta da! I should have taken a before picture so I could show you guys the difference! There’s not much though. Ha ha!

Monday– I planned on running an easy 6 miles in the morning and then 4 miles of tempo in the afternoon/evening but once I got Callum to bed, I just didn’t feel like it! So I just did the 6 slow treadmill miles in the morning.

Tuesday– I went to do my tempo run tonight and didn’t quite make it. I warmed up, dove into my usual 3 miles at 6:40 min/mile pace and only made it to 1.5 miles at that pace. I recovered for .5 miles and then did 1 mile at 6:40 pace, recovered again for .5 miles and then did the last .5 (of the original 3) at 6:40 pace. Cooled down, with a total count of 10 miles on the treadmill. Oof. Wasn’t feeling it today.

Wednesday– I ran 5 early in the morning outside while listening to a podcast and then I pushed Callum in the stroller for 5 miles in the afternoon. He needed a short nap so I let him sleep in there for 20 minutes.

Thursday– I ran 6 slow miles on the treadmill early this morning and then a super fast and hilly 6 miles outside later on! Andrew came home early from work and told me to go. YIPPEE!

Friday– I got up early and ran a really slow 10 miles in the cold, dark rain. I am so done with this winter. SO DONE. Then, because it was Callum’s birthday and he had about 16 pieces of birthday cake and was acting like a screamy monster, I pushed him in the stroller through the dark night rain for 3 miles.

Saturday– Just a really super slow 12 miler this morning after dropping Jake off at work. The sun is trying to peek out, though! I want to reach up, grab it and kiss all over it.

Sunday– Another super slow 12 miler IN THE SNOW. Ugh. It’s not sticking, thank goodness. BUT STILL.

When is your next birthday and how old are you turning?

Do you like cake? What kind?

Don’t even tell me how amazing your weather is right now.

I love cake. Chocolate, especially. Cupcakes are a weakness because the cake to frosting ratio is usually great. I make an amaaaaaaaaazing cupcake.

Fun fact: did you know that sugar does not cause hyperactivity in children? Research thought it was so in the 70s but was debunked in the 80s, however, it continued to stick around (I suspect that it was well-meaning parents, trying to prevent their children from eating too much junk.)

Weirdest winter here! We had snow a week ago which was just crazy. Thankfully the sun came out for my race! I used to love cake but now I don’t – donuts or something like cinnamon rolls are my weakness and I’ll even have a birthday donut instead of cake.

I looooove cinnamon buns. YES. I’d way rather have one of those than cake. Congrats again on your race and I am SO GLAD you didn’t have to run through snow! PHEW.

Yeah, I knew that. It’s just kinda a thing to say that’s not true like, “my farts don’t smell.” We say untrue things just for the sake of saying it. Humans are weird.

Don’t worry, our weather is back to being stupid. Not nearly as bad as yours but this weekend was freezing and the wind was really bad at the end of last week.
I hope Callum had a great birthday!

The wind is the worst part. You guys definitely have way more extremes than we do. Ours is just constantly miserable.

You always make me feel better about winter here although I feel terrible for YOU! I ran in a freezing wind storm over the weekend and it was nauseating. Ugh. Enough already!!!
Love the “screamy monster” because yep, I know those creepers 🙂

I promise that once it gets sunny and warm, I will NOT COMPLAIN about the heat. I vow to you. I swear it.

I bet Callum on sugar is really easy to deal with…. not
    I turn 29 in a month!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 6, 2017, 7:52 am

      Aww… you’re such a young little thing!

  • Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home March 6, 2017, 5:05 am

Holy moley, 75 miles? I love my strength training. I truly believe that lifting all the weight has helped me stay on top of my RA.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 6, 2017, 7:52 am

Yeah, it really helps a tonne–way more than I would ever have admitted to before I actually tried it.

  • Megan @ Meg Go Run March 6, 2017, 7:46 am

Dang girl, that’s a lot of miles! Did it feel like just the right amount or did you want to do more? I love cake. Vanilla with vanilla icing is fine by me!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 6, 2017, 7:51 am

It felt like just the right amount!

  • Ana March 6, 2017, 9:45 am

75 sounds like a good strong number!

Our weather is like yours right now, cold, windy and snowy, but the snow is not sticking…. which is great!

I have a birthday coming up in August, I’ll be 35! Everybody is asking when I’m having another kid, and gently, and sometimes rudely, reminding me that I would have a high risk pregnancy now. boo !

I love whipped topping on cake the most!

    • Megan @ Meg Go Run March 6, 2017, 5:51 pm

I’ll be 35 this summer too!

I love(d) my thirties! Dirty thirties. Ha ha ha!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 6, 2017, 6:15 pm

Ya!!! Have another baby! Do it! *jazz hands*

  • San March 6, 2017, 10:11 am

Marble cake is my favorite and my birthday is this week! I’ll be…. 41 (WHAT?).

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 6, 2017, 6:14 pm

Ha ha no way! 41 isn’t old or anything but you don’t look like you’re anywhere near that age! Kinda cool. Maybe it’s your exotic foreign sexiness that keeps you young. 😉

  • Helly on the Run March 6, 2017, 5:57 pm

I like chocolate cake, no frosting. I just turned 32 so it’s a bit a ways for the next birthday. I love all of your posts, but I love reading about your badass miles on the treadmill. You really motivate me to get off my ass.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 6, 2017, 6:06 pm

Really? I always think everyone finds them to be so boring. I bore MYSELF when I try reading about it.

  • Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets March 7, 2017, 1:31 pm

My next birthday is in 10 days…on the 17th, St. Patrick’s Day. I’ll be 39. Jesus, I’m old.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 7, 2017, 2:07 pm

Ooooohhhh very interesting! We’re the same age! THIS IS EXCITING.
