I had TWO really great, really tough workouts last week. They helped me gain a huge chunk of confidence for the marathon next month! I hit my usual 70 miles for the week and this is how it looked:
Monday– Treadmill hustle: 10 miles at 7:30 min/mile pace.
Tuesday– Just a 10 mile slog on the treadmill at 8:30 min/mile pace.
Wednesday– I warmed up for a mile then did 3 miles at 6:40 min/mile pace, recovered for a mile and then did 3 miles at 6:30, 6:22 and 6:22 pace. With a cool down mile, it brought me to 9 miles for the day.
Thursday– Just an easy 9 mile run at 8 min/mile pace.
Friday– Just an easy 7 on the treadmill.
Saturday– Long run with race pace tempo miles! I needed to do this soon because the roads are juuuuust finally clear enough to run on them and who knows how long that will last! I ran 18 miles total with the 14 middle miles at an average 6:47 min/mile pace. My PR for the half marathon is 28:08, and the half marathon I ran inside of my workout yesterday was 28:56. I’m getting fitter, and this sub-3 is looking more and more of a possibility with each passing week. I ran this run with a bad chest cough, so imagine how I’ll do when I’m healthy! 7 more weeks until Phoenix and I’ve got one more long run with race pace tempo miles left (I’m going to do 16 tempo miles inside of a 20 miler) and then a few regular paced 20-23 milers. Buckle in, Suzy. These coming weeks are gonna be bumpayyyyyy! WOOHOOO!!!
Sunday– A super slow 7 mile recovery run in the rain.
The next 4 weeks will be tough. I’m looking forward to it! Right after I kick this cough.
