Mileage Monday

I had my highest mileage week this week since I was in my second trimester, pregnant with Jesse. I used to be a super high mileage runner logging anywhere between 70 and 110 miles a week but I decided to lower my mileage and include tougher workouts to see if that will help me shave 7 minutes off my marathon time to get me a shiny new sub-3 hour marathon. I’ll find out in about four weeks!

80 miles this week while on antibiotics for pneumonia and sporting several, yes several dislodged ribs (pregnancy/breastfeeding hormones to “blame” for that!). Here’s how it went down:

Monday– Testing out the lungs a bit more, holding onto a base for marathon training, trying my best to stay in the game without being a complete ass and screwing up my body. 13 slow and breathe-easy miles on the treadmill today. I’m planning for a 22 mile long run tomorrow at about a 7:30 average pace. I won’t kill myself doing it though. I’ll see how I feel once I’m out there.

Tuesday– I had to break this up into two runs because Jesse got his immunizations today and I didn’t want to be too far away from him! I ran 8 miles during his nap and then 14 miles once Andrew came home. I’m not sure of the pace of the first 8 miles but the last 14 were at around 7:45 average pace (the first 8 were done at 7:25 pace and the last 6 were a lot slower).

Wednesday– An 8 mile recovery run at 8:30 min/mile pace on the treadmill while Jesse napped.

Thursday– A 4 mile run on the treadmill until Jesse woke up and then 3 miles pushing him in the stroller to make 7 for the day!

Friday– 8 treadmill miles at 8 min/mile pace while the baby sleeps!

Saturday– 8 stroller miles in the rain so that Jesse’s cough would settle down and he’d sleep. He’s on antibiotics now too. 🙁

Sunday– I’m so happy about this!!! I feel like I have FINALLY turned a corner with this cough. Four weeks to go until the marathon so this next week is THE week as far as mileage and intensity go and then it starts to taper off. Since I did last week’s long run earlier this week, I chose to do a mid-length run with a fast finish today. I ran a slow 6 miles while Jesse napped and then I stopped to feed him when he woke up, then ran 5 miles at 7:13 min/mile pace and the last 3 miles at 6:22 min/miles for 14 total miles. I’m feeling really happy about this!
