Mileage Monday

Last week was taper week with the Run For Water half marathon on Sunday. This is how it went down for a total of 55 miles:

Monday: Major treadmill sweatfest for 7 miles at an average of 7:30 min/mile pace with the last mile at a 7 min/mile pace.

Tuesday: Same as Monday.

Wednesday: Grandma Slane came over to be with Callum so I could run outside. I wanted to go hard and long (TWSS) but I reined it in with 7 miles.

Thursday: Super slow six miler in the rising sun. I haaaaate running in the mornings.

Friday: I didn’t get this 10 miler in until the end of the day and I really should have just done 5 miles, but by the time I started running I was so stressed and just needed to pound it out.

Saturday: Andrew got all dressed for a run and I decided to join him for 5 miles. Then we had Coronas while we cleaned up the BBQ.

Something weird happened to my foot, and I know it sounds like a big fat granny pants excuse but I swear it’s the truth. I stood up and the joint in the top of my left foot was all knotted up and I couldn’t even put weight on it. I iced it and then hoped and prayed that Brent (my massage therapist) would be at the start line in the morning to see if he could adjust my foot.

Sunday: I found Brent and he worked on my foot but it was just too jammed up. I ran on it anyway because the way my foot hits the ground when I run isn’t as painful as when I walk on it. I finished in 1:31-something. Super tough course, a huuuuuge ass hill between mile 6 and 7 and yeah. My foot got messed up. But it was a good experience and now I know I’ve got that sub 1:30 in me. Race recap tomorrow.

Oh no…sorry to hear about your foot. I feel like lately you have had these random injuries that sort of affect your running but not directly. I can’t believe you hate running in the morning! I struggle to go any other time of day. Great job in the half- you are so close to that 1:30!

Well it all stemmed from the broken toe, which jammed up my foot and my hip. RAWR. I used to run sub-1:30 before I had Callum, so it’s just going to take a bit to get back under there.

I hope the foot injury isn’t too serious! Looks and sounds painful. Awesome job on the race!!! That is an amazing time so just imagine what you could do if you were 100% healthy.

      I don’t *think* (???) it’s too serious. It’ll settle down. *crossing fingers*

Um yeah thanks to that photographic evidence I’m gonna go ahead and say that’s NOT an excuse haha that’s looking weird! My foot has been having issues during my training too and I’m not sure why…it’s never hurt before. Great mileage, as usual!

My feet are totally freaky WITHOUT the huge mass of inflated tissue and bone sticking out of it. Sigh… oh well.

Wow. You are so damn speedy!! Congrats on a fantastic race. Your sub-1:30 is coming soon!! Hope your foot feels (and looks) better asap – looks SO painful.

    Happy Monday!! 🙂

Okay, so while I was walking up the stairs I felt and heard this POP sound and I guess my foot clicked into place because although it was still tender, I could walk on it. It was functional. I even ran a slow 5 miles on it today! I AM SO HAPPY.

First of all, congrats on a GREAT race and a great week! Bum foot or not, that’s a great half marathon! Love how you went out on Friday and just decided to run a 10 miler (I was laughing, “pound it out” – I totally say that). And I get the bum foot crap out of nowhere – last year I had this weird thing that came out of NOWHERE with my big toe. WTF?

Thanks Allison! I’m not sure where I ever came up with the term “pound it out” but it just feels right. I’m glad you can relate so I don’t feel all crazy by myself. 😛
