Mileage Monday

I think I got 80.7 miles this week. You’ll be proud of me to know that I finished the week with an uneven number and I ran on Lora’s right side, rather than on the left (an OCD quirk I’ve had for life). So, you know. Dream big, right?

Monday– Just took it really easy today. Slow 10 miles ending on a steep uphill to get the kids from school.

Tuesday– First I ran a slow 6 miles on the treadmill while Callum napped. Then I did 6 miles total at the track with 7x800m repeats with 400m recovery in between each one. I did each 800m in 3:00! There was one in 3:01 and one in 2:59 so it all balanced out. Pretty happy!!

WednesdayI ran 8 miles outside this morning and then just did a progressive 5 miles on the treadmill. First mile was 7 mph then I increased it by 0.2 mph every half mile until I finished at 9mph.

Thursday– Andrew’s turn at the track! First I did 4 miles on the treadmill with the last 800 metres at 9.7mph, and I cranked it up to 10mph with .10 of a mile left! I have never gone that fast on the treadmill before. Then Andrew and I went to the track for his set of 7x800s. My goal for him was 3:50 per 800m and he nailed them with gobs of time to spare:

1-3:46
2-3:47
3-3:45
4-3:42
5-3:42
6-3:35
7-3:18!!!!!

I told him if he doesn’t get a sub-4 marathon on May 1st then he has to walk home.

Friday– My right hip wasn’t working at 100% so I made a physio appointment for 11am. I took Callum for a 5 mile stroller run and then stuck to the treadmill for a slow 8 miles after Dave fixed my SI joint. Apparently my sacrum was tilted? Twisted? I wonder how THAT HAPPENED??!?!?!? Hmm…

Saturday– Got it done before our beach day! Super slow 10 miles.

Sunday– I met Lora at 11am to run 15 miles, but we only got 12.7. I’m not sure how we ended up running against the wind on the way out and on the way back, but maybe it was wind karma for all our past shenanigans.

You can kinda see my dreads in this picture?! And my nose hoop. We used to run 20 milers and finish at this old pub in Fort Langley for a pint of beer and nachos. Good times, good times. The waitresses really knew how to take great photos.

Have you ever had a twisted sacrum?

I originally twisted it when I fell in the shower a couple of years ago, and it’s gone out twice since then. It made for a very awkward physio appointment.

What’s your favourite post long run food/snack/drink/activity?

Have you ever had dreads or piercings other than your ears?

Wow I am VERY proud of you for ending on an odd number. I really don’t know if I could do that! I don’t even like ending on a .5, which really is sometimes a good place to stop but… no…

I have my belly button pierced. I got it done when I was 22. It hurt A LOT.

10mph!! I have never gone that fast on the treadmill! The fastest I have gone is 9.4. I did that last week during a speed workout. I was very scared to do it but it ended up okay.

REALLY good job on your track workout!!! 🙂

What is beach day? Or will I find that out tomorrow?

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 28, 2016, 5:35 pm

Meg, I’ve never gone that fast on a treadmill before ever either, until last week! You know Allison from inverted sneakers? The hot Italian that pole dances and runs 3 hour marathons? She does her track work on the treadmill and hits 10 mph on the regular. I was like, WHAT? So I tried it for 3 minutes, and I’ve been paying the price ever since.

Beach day tomorrow. Ha ha! You know me so well.

I kind of can’t believe you ended on an odd number! But how do you keep it from happening most weeks? Do you look a your mileage so far before your last run of the week so see how much you can do?
I actually had my tongue pierced when I was 20 and going through a rebellious phase. I wanted to get something pierced but didn’t want to worry about scars on my face. I also had my belly button pierced for awhile but I lost the ring at some point and never replaced it so it closed up.
Glad your hip was able to be fixed so quickly!

    • Megan @ Meg Go Run February 28, 2016, 5:11 pm

I would NEVER guess you as having had a tongue ring!!!! Did it hurt? That seems like it would be the most painful thing ever.

      • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 28, 2016, 5:31 pm

That shocked my socks off too. Lisa just joined us on the bus on the highway to hell. YEAHHH BAYBEEEEE!

        • Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine February 29, 2016, 4:17 pm

Ha! It actually didn’t hurt too much. Honestly thinking back at my life when I was in college I think I was a completely different person…there’s no way I would do anything like that now! But I am just glad I never got a tattoo because knowing myself I would probably end up regretting it.

          • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 29, 2016, 5:23 pm

My almost-15 year old wants a tattoo. Kids don’t have the capacity to think big-picture as much as adults do. Although, most adults don’t either. Ha ha!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 28, 2016, 5:33 pm

Ha ha ha. I adore you. I always have. Anyway, okay so how do I keep it from happening most weeks? I don’t wear a Garmin. I map out my mileage and it’s usually a decimal or more above the nearest number, and I just round down. So I guess I’m not that anal! Yay for me!

My hip still hurts. I have a massage appointment tomorrow.

I’ve had piercings EVERYWHERE. But my dad reads my blog, so I’ll keep it on the down low.

  • Laura @ This Runner's Recipes February 28, 2016, 9:01 pm

Whooot your splits on those 800s are awesome! I can’t believe you ended on not a round number but I’m proud of you. I certainly am too ocd to do that.
I only have my ears pierced, three times in each lobe. I was too scared of needles to get any other piercings…which makes no sense given my two tattoos. Especially that one all the way around my ankle that hurt like a b*Tch.
I’m glad you fixed your hip up!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 29, 2016, 7:55 am

I’ve heard ankle tattoos hurt a lot. Lots of nerve endings and not a lot much meat in that area, or whatever. Ewww calling it meat is really weird.

Way to go Andrew! Can’t believe the time of that last 800…crazy. I know next time he’ll crush his goal 🙂 Great job to you this week as well!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 29, 2016, 7:54 am

He was SO FAST on that last 800. I know he can be running them faster because you shouldn’t have that much energy on the last one to take that much time off. I’m just nervous to have him push too hard and get injured. He’s gotta get to the start line in one piece before he can crush the sub-4!

  • Susie @ SuzLyfe February 29, 2016, 5:26 am

THOU SHALT NOT INJURY THY SACRUM. Apparently you and I are sinners.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 29, 2016, 7:52 am

I guess this doesn’t surprise me.

  • Heather@hungryforbalance February 29, 2016, 10:54 am

Props to you for beating your OCD tendencies! I’m always struggling with mine, but I try to remind myself that NO ONE CARES if I alphabetize things or not.
I’ve had my nose, tongue, and lots of ear piercings. I really miss the nose ring.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 29, 2016, 5:22 pm

I heard that tongue piercings are bad for the teeth (and expensive to fix!) so I opted out of those, otherwise I probably would have got one.

  • Lauren @ i had a big lunch February 29, 2016, 12:28 pm

I don’t know why I’m ever still surprised by your mileage but it’s blown me away yet again. Your track workout is an inspiration! THOSE SPEEDS!!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 29, 2016, 5:21 pm

      Aww, spanks, Lauren! <3

  • Allison February 29, 2016, 7:21 pm

NICE JOB this week – especially that 10mph milestone! I just knew it 🙂 🙂 I love hearing about Andrew’s training, too. He has GOT to break four hours. He is totally capable!

I had my belly button and my nose pierced. I took out my belly button piercing on purpose but my nose by accident. I did a half ironman in June 2014, and I was blowing snot rockets off my bike and gave myself a bloody nose thanks to the nose ring. So when I did another half iron man in September of 2014, I thought I was so smart to take it out…until two weeks went by and I realized I never put it back in. I guess I could get it re pierced. Maybe one day.

Favorite post long run food…anything junk food. But usually it’s just a Quest bar or scrambled eggs or something lame.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com February 29, 2016, 7:45 pm

I tried Quest bars but every time I ate one I’d get diarrhea. I mean, I get diarrhea all the time anyway but especially when I’d have Quest bars. Then one day I decided to check out the nutrition information and I noticed that there’s a gazillion grams of fibre in each bar.

  • Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets March 1, 2016, 3:52 am

Is it weird I’m a bit jealous of your twisted sacrum? I miss penetration.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com March 1, 2016, 6:25 pm

Oh girl, you’re going to be backing up into it a zillion times a day once you get the green light. You poor thing.
