Mileage Monday

Two weeks ago, Andrew jumped back into the training game like he never left. There are 4 weeks left until BMO Vancouver Marathon and so this coming week is peak training week for him. I will write out his training in a day or two so you guys can see what he’s been doing.

I’m not sure which marathon I’ll be running quite yet. There were a lot of negative reviews on the Seattle Rock ‘n Roll (at the end of June) so I’m not exactly sold on that one. I’m thinking I may just run Skagit again in September and do a few half marathon races leading up to it.

I hit 89 miles this past week.

Monday: 10 miles on a beautiful day! So sunny and warm. It makes all those windy rainy winter runs worth it.

Tuesday: Another 10 miles (I can’t remember if it was outside or in).

Wednesday: I ran 12 miles in the morning and then refueled with ginger beef and a long john doughnut.I am actually disgusting.


Ginger beef is the one thing that I really crave. I mean like really crave. I enjoy my morning coffee, I often feel like having some chocolate, but ginger beef taps upon a reflex of which I have no control. The syrupy spice, the chewy texture that gives my wisdom teeth a reason to be there, the perfect amount of saltiness for a post long run… bliss. Perfection. I always need it yesterday.

And then I ran 6 miles later on in the evening with Andrew. I love running with him, especially when we get so busy with work and kids.

Thursday: Treadmill strength workout of 12 miles total. 2 mile warmup. 2×3 miles at 6:40 pace with 1 mile recovery between sets. 3 mile cool down. I have a really hard time running faster paces on the treadmill.

Friday: 11 miles easy. I did 5 miles with Callum in the stroller and then 6 more on the treadmill while he napped.

Saturday: Marathon race pace tempo. 1 warm-up mile, 10 miles straight at an average 6:48 min/mile and 3 mile cool-down! 14 miles total.

Sunday: I ran Andrew’s 2×3 mile repeats with him. We did a 3 mile warm up then the first set of three miles in 8:31, 8:27, and 8:24. One mile recovery and then the next set of three miles in 8:24, 8:16, and 7:37! The goal was to do them all in about 8:30s, since that’s what he did his 3×2 mile repeats in last week, but he was FAST today!

Do you still have your wisdom teeth? All four? If not, what happened? Did they get pulled or just not show up to the party?

I have all four, and they’re HUGE muhfuckers.

    Butter chicken. I could bathe in that stuff. I have made the mistake of eating it before a long run and won’t do that again. But now I save it for after the super long ones. How can you not love something where “butter” is actually in the name?

      I ate hash browns and onion right before I ran today and I burped onion the whole entire time. It was so gross. I can’t eat onion ever without getting the burps. Butter chicken, however, is totally worth burping.

    Ryan just got his wisdom teeth removed, all four, and he’s on day three of no solid food. I had mine pulled at 17 before they broke through, and that was a long recovery.
    I was going to say you should do Jack and Jill in July or Light at the End of the Tunnel in June but both are sold out! Rock and Roll Seattle is supposed crazy crowded and hilly, so I don’t blame you on skipping it.

      Oh no way! What are the chances that I’d ask that right when he got them pulled?!?! That’s crazy!

      I can’t believe those are both sold out. I quickly signed up for the BMO Vancouver with Andrew as I saw they had less than 200 spots left.

    I got all my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 18. It was kind of good to just get it all over with at once and then not have to deal with it.
    Sounds like Andrew is doing great with his training!!

      Our bodies seem to have a lot of things that end up getting removed. Why do we even have them in the first place? Appendix, gall bladder, wisdom teeth… it’s stupid!

    Holy training week! Nicely done. I have the same issue on the treadmill with speed. I definitely prefer to do it outside on the road. And my wisdom were JUST pulled this past November at the age of 40. Long, painful story and I’m still dealing with the aftermath!!!

      The later we get shit done the longer and harder the recovery on our old decrepit bodies, eh? I wanted to get my tonsils out and my doctor was like, no way. He said people my age bleed to death on the table. Ha! Niiiiiice. I hope your wisdom teeth issues settle soon because that just does not sound fun at all.

    I had three wisdom teeth, they were all impacted, and when they were removed, I got dry sockets in all of them. It was fun. NOT. My mom still has her’s. It hasn’t helped 😀

      The dry socket thing is a nightmare. YUCK. You poor thing.

    My husband just resumed training after taking most of the winter off. Even though we don’t talk much while running, it has been so nice having company for at least some of my miles.

    Wisdom teeth: all were impacted and removed when I was 18 (before they could undo all the work from 2 years of braces).

    Great job this week 🙂 I had 2 of my wisdom teeth removed (and then I had to get a second round of braces which was NOT fun). Last year, one of the remaining wisdom teeth started to come in which is a little annoying, but luckily the dentist said it’s fine and doesn’t have to be removed! My mouth feels all off center now since I have one extra tooth on one side.

    Omg that beef stuff just looks nasty. Yesterday I craved ice cream for the first time in a really long time.

    I had my wisdom teeth until about age 27 and then they were starting to cause problems so I got them removed. I ended up getting dry socket and it was horrible. It was the most pain I ever had in my entire life.

      Don’t talk about my ginger beef that way. It hurts.

      Omg the dry socket thing is AWFUL. My mom had that and my heart broke for her. She was in so much pain.

    I got all of my wisdom teeth removed when I was 16, but John still has all of his.
    I think I could eat eggs every single day of my life and never get sick of them- I crave them like crazy.

      I’ve been craving eggs lately too. Fried eggs, a bit runny, seeping into buttered toast. YUMMO.

    I have all four of my wisdom teeth. Some of them never showed to the party and the ones which did came so late, it didn’t matter.

    Cleveland has a marathon. Just sayin’.

      Don’t tempt me. I think we’ve spent all of my stripper money on this Mexican vacation otherwise I’d show up at your front door wearing nothing but my running shoes in a hot second.

    You’re a beast. Andrew is a beast. I am seriously impressed!!!! I can’t wait for you to decide what marathon you are going to run 😉 I think you have big things coming your way…

    Also, now I want ginger beef. Last time I made your butter chicken and YUM. Now I need to Pinterest some ginger beef and get on that.

      I’ve tried so many times to make ginger beef but just nothing compares to the stuff I can buy. Just nothing.
