Pregnant and Running: 18 Week Update

Wow, 18 weeks already! This is bizarre. I kinda figured this pregnancy would fly by and it most certainly has. I feel really good! This is probably the easiest, simplest most comfortable pregnancy I have had so far. I mean, Jake’s was fabulous because I was only 21 years old, but then I had that whole pre-term labour scare at 30 weeks and bed rest after that. Freddy’s was pretty simple, actually, despite some really weird cravings for laundry detergent and ice chips (I only ate the ice chips) but I’ll go into that in another post. My belly always measured small when I was pregnant with Katie so I kept eating cheeseburgers and avocados but only my ass would get bigger. My pregnancy with Callum was freaky with the whole bleeding thing. But this one? Piece of cake. Even if it starts getting sketch now, I mean, I made it to 18 weeks pregnant logging 60+ running miles per week! That in and of itself is a huge gift. I’m so thankful.

The only thing really worth noting from this past week is the issue with my sciatic nerve. During pregnancy, the hips shift around and the sciatic nerve can get compressed a bit and actually end up being debilitating and painful. This doesn’t hurt me though–it’s just annoying. The nerve is firing, pulsing like a heartbeat deep within my left butt cheek. It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t bother me at all during the day–only at night when I’m trying to sleep. When it was really acting up, as long as I slept on my left side with my left leg stretched out straight along the length of the bed, then the pulsing settled down. My left glute had to be in a bit of a flexed position to alleviate the nerve compression. WEIRD ASS SHIT OR WHAT?

Other than that? Meh. Boring. I still weigh 126 lb. *yawn* and I’m still eating the bacon cheeseburgers and veggie soup. My running has slowed down by about 30-60 seconds per min/mile, which is expected.

Here is the Mileage Monday recapping my 18th week of pregnancy.

I wear a lot of Lulus, but I did before too so not much has really changed as far as the wardrobe is concerned. My belly is trying to bust through my winter running jacket and vest but hopefully I won’t have to be wearing those for much longer anyway.

I hauled out some bathing suits for our trip to Arizona and I found a couple that fit. I’ve always worn bikinis because I have a super long torso, so the only thing I really worried about not fitting were the tops, and a couple of them are just fine. I also found some shorts from last summer that are baggy in the waist, and a couple of summer dresses. Yay!

Do you guys have any questions for me? I’m positive that I’m not addressing lots of the good stuff! Let me know!

    I forgot all about that back pain! Does anything help with yours? I used to ice my back.

    I’m glad your pregnancy is going well.

    Weird question… are your hormones making your extra horny? That’s one thing I remember about being pregnant .

      I’m really lucky in that it doesn’t hurt; it just twitches!

      Pregnancy makes me especially hot and bothered because of all the pressure down there. It’s like, always “on” if that makes sense. Rawr.

    You are a she-ro just taking this pregnancy in stride ?(see what I did there?) LOL! And, I started swimming when I was pregnant with the boys, since it was one of the only things I could do by the third trimester and I had the hardest time finding a maternity suit!! So glad you have some to fit for your trip to the sunshine!!

      Badam CHOW! You’re a wordsmith. And dude, you’re in a totally different category having had carried TWO OF THEM around in your bellayyy. That’s no joke. It’s all about survival at that point. You’re a hero in my books just for getting through it.

    You are rocking this pregnant momma thing. I’m glad one of us had a good experience. I felt like I was in pain the entire last trimester. In fact, I was popping Tylenol often and I hate to take meds at all. I usually wait until I’m truly suffering before popping a pill. I also lived in the bathtub at night. I even ate girl scout cookies in there towards the end. It was quite cozy.

    Sounds like things are going great for you! When I had issues with my piriformis my sciatic nerve would get irritated. Most of the time it was just annoying, but not painful. I always noticed it when I was driving and to me that was the most annoying!

      YES! You’re the only other person who said they felt their nerve but it didn’t hurt. It just twitches NON STOP.
