Pregnant and Running: 29 Week Update

Hey guys! I am so excited about being in the third trimester and hitting 30 weeks pregnant next week! It’s a huge milestone. I went into premature labour with my first son, Jake at 30 weeks. They gave me the steroid shots for his lungs and a couple other medications to stop contractions and then sent me home after a week of being in the hospital. My little 7lb 3oz boy ended up being a week overdue and he’s been keeping us all on our toes ever since! I don’t foresee any premature labour with this pregnancy. Everything is feeling good and theΒ baby and I are healthy and growing at a steady rate!

I’m up 1lb from last week putting me at 137lb (14-17lb total) and while it feels quite heavy, I also know it’s all healthy weight. I am a nutritional rockstar, seriously. Do you know what I drink after my run? I throw about 3 cups of frozen baby spinach and 18oz of water into a blender, blend it to smithereens and then chug it with my prenatal vitamins and iron supplement. But not only that–I’m also getting in a tonne of fruits and veggies throughout the day as well as truckloads of water. As soon as the baby is born, I have no doubt that I’ll go back to my shitty diet, yo. I can’t wait. I’m getting emotional just thinking about it.

Running has definitely been slowing down with way more walk and potty breaks, but that’s to be expected. I’m keeping my mileage up in an effort to not let my fitness go downhill too much, although I’ll be struggling with strength and speed post-partum, for sure.

    How many times a day do you think you pee?? I pee so much when I eat a lot of fruits veggies and there isn’t even anything pressing on my bladder!

      Maybe I should count?! Should I start counting at midnight of that day or when I wake up in the morning?

    When I got out of the hospital (because hospital food hardly counts as a postnatal meal), my first meal was a Wendy’s Spicy Chicken (crispy), with fries, a GIANT Coke Zero and a Frosty.

    Then, when I got home, I had a bacon cheese burger with more fries.

    Do it up, yo.

    As much as I love green smoothies Im not sure I would want to drink one with just spinach and water! My blender broke last week and I had to mail it in for returns. I cant wait to get it back so I can go back to drinking smoothies every day!

        Ha ha ha! Returns would be better. A bunch of blenders would show up on your doorstep! What kind of blender do you have? I have a Kitchen-Aid but it’s on its way out. I’m kinda thinking about the Ninja. Have you heard anything about that one? Obvy I’d kill for a Vitamix but I can’t track down who to give a lapdance to in order to score myself one because those things cost a FORTUNE.

          Hi there! First time commenter as I just recently started following your blog, but had to chime in on the question regarding the Ninja – I have the NutriNinja Auto IQ and LOVE IT!! It blends everything up nice and smooth (including oatmeal), perfect for smoothies (and adult beverages haha) in minutes! I’ve never had a Vitamix but from the research I did when I purchased the Ninja, it’s pretty on par with it, and the price is perfect. I highly recommend! πŸ™‚

      I do still eat treats and junk and stuff, for SURE. I just make sure to fill my guts up with the healthy stuff first. I hate being responsible!

    So yesterday I made a smoothie with a huge handful of fresh spinach, a banana, some ginger and almond milk and it was awful!! lol I don’t know how you are able to just have spinach and water. Must be the chugging that gets it down. You seriously are a nutritional rock star right now…. so proud of you πŸ™‚ Now are you going to join the dark side and become a vegetarian or vegan?? πŸ™‚

      Ginger is quite… strong. I don’t think I’d put ginger in it but yeah, I actually see a tonne of people drinking smoothies with ginger in it! They call them “so delicious and refreshing” or some shit like that. Frigging GROSS. I used to be a vegetarian in high school–did you know that? For a year or two. Except I didn’t eat any vegetables.

    I used to put spinach in smoothies. I saw other bloggers doing it and how theirs turned out. Mine just looked nasty and tasted the same way. Sometimes I think bloggers make that stuff and take pictures and then go to the drive-thru… I can’t believe someone would drink or eat some of that stuff and truthfully enjoy it.

    I agree with Wendy that your baby will probably come out running! Even if you aren’t running as fast I bet you will get back to running pretty soon after the baby comes just because your mileage has been SO HIGH and you are still running. A lot of ladies who have babies seem to come back even faster than before- I bet that will be you :).

      I laughed out loud about how you think bloggers fake the healthy lifestyle! That’s HILARIOUS! And probably totally true. πŸ˜‰ Yeah I have to choke that shit DOWN. I have to drink it when I’m thirsty AF right after I finish a run otherwise that just ain’t gonna happen.

      Brands don’t matter too much to me–as long as he’s in the proper footwear for his biomechanics LOL Ha ha I’m such a dork. Quite honestly, the kid is going to live in pajamas for his first 6 months of life because HELLOOOO it’s way easier.

    I put spinach in my smoothies. I never thought to just put it with water. It’d have to have ice in it though b/c I don’t do room temperature smoothies.

      It’s not a pleasant experience, but I drink it like medicine. I don’t add ice cubes because then it makes it hard to chug (the liquid turns slushy and doesn’t shoot fast through the straw and down the hatch). But I never ever use fridge-temperature spinach because the blender turns it all stringy. Frozen spinach is the ONLY way to go. And ice cold water. You can always pour the mixture over top of ice cubes and then stick a straw in.

    I remember getting up five times a night to pee when I was pregnant. Five! That’s crazy. Damn healthy diet. πŸ™‚

    I think your first post baby meal should be crispy nachos smothered in three kinds of cheese, beans, hot salsa, sour cream with some green onions and cilantro for color. Dammit, now I want nachos.

      YES! Especially yes to the hot salsa. I can’t eat anything too spicy right now because of all the burfs.

    You look so strong! I can’t do spinach in smoothies – it’s a texture thing. I used to do it, but I’d add peanut butter to mask the taste. Then I just embraced salads more. I’m not a smoothie or juice drinker.

      You should try frozen spinach leaves in smoothies. It makes a huge difference–maybe something to do with the blades cutting clean through each leaf because when they’re frozen they’re more rigid? Something like that. But I promise that you won’t get a single strand or string of spinach in any of your sips if you use frozen spinach!
