Pregnant and Running: 35 Week Update

So… I’m starting to feel grosser and grosser with each passing day which, I guess is good because I need a certain level of discomfort to motivate me for labour and delivery; if I feel amazing all the time then I’ll go into D-day with the brakes on and that’s not a good thing.

Without being too much of a whiner, I’ll simply say that the biggest issue I have right now is the indigestion. Throwing an “in” before a verb implies that the verb is just not happening and in that case, it’s the truth because I get up, eat breakfast, and then my god forsaken oatmeal and smoothie SITS IN MY THROAT ALL DAY LONG and each time I bend over to pick up a toy, I regurgitate my food right back up into my mouth. It takes oh, about six hours for my breakfast to make its way down into my stomach and about six seconds for it to come right back up into my chest again. I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE. KILL ME NOW.

Obviously forget what I said about being too much of a whiner.

Like, okay. It’s 2:30pm right now. I ate my last bite of food at 9:30 this morning, and I’m still burping it. I can feel chunks in my chest. I’ve been drinking all day long (water, not booze–in my dreams) so maybe that’s the culprit but I don’t really have a choice there. All I can think about it sticking my finger down my throat and puke-spraying breakfast chunks so I can sit down and have a proper meal. Oh, but I’m not hungry and have zero appetite. It’s date night tonight which means I’m going to be a real treat to be with. You can see how this particular sitch would bring down the pregnant sex a notch or two.

Anyway. I’m down 1 lb this week (no kidding) so I weigh 140lb now. It’s pretty normal to lose weight near the end of pregnancy. Indigestion, nausea, unable to eat much at one time, plus the heat of summer also makes it hard to work up an appetite. I wish I could just take a food pill or get hooked up to an IV until I have the baby. Seriously.

Running makes me feel the most normal. I ran 60 miles last week, and if you’d like to check out the details, here is the link to my Mileage Monday.

Okay, you’re turn! Whine about something. Lemme hear it.

omg indigestion is not a fun feeling. I hope it passes soon! I remember having that sometimes when I was pregnant. I gave up on peanut butter a for a while because it never went down right! pizza always went down so well though, that I can recall lol

I can see pizza being a good thing to digest because it’s so solid. It just goes down like a sack of potatoes. Things like cereal, oatmeal, smoothies—those things all have liquid in them. I think you’re onto something!

I clearly remember those last few weeks when baby is taking up ALL the room and you have such a tiny stomach space. My advice is to eat your meals while ingesting zero fluids so your stomach acid is not diluted and can digest it as quick as possible.

Ok I’ll whine about our smoky air here in AB coming from all the fires in BC. I feel so sorry for all the people over there.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 1, 2017, 4:51 pm

That’s right! We’re not supposed to mix our food and fluids. I’ll remember that. Although because it’s so hot here right now, I have to be drinking water all day long. That’s the only problem.

You guys have smoky air way over there?!?!? We woke up to a haze of smoke–we can’t even see our mountains anymore, and the sun is barely shining through the smoke. It’s so sad.

Dude, you barely ever whine! At least on here you don’t. I whine to Paul a lot. Not about running related things.. But like right now, I have poison ivy, and you’d think I was dying or something. BUT POISON IVY IS THE DEVIL!!!!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 1, 2017, 4:49 pm

Ohhhhh I’ve never had poison ivy. It SOUNDS brutal. Especially because you’re a tough person, mentally and physically strong, so it must be really bad.

      • Megan @ Meg Go Run August 1, 2017, 5:02 pm

You never had poison ivy!? How!? I am proud to say that while I did scratch the little random dots, the big rash I did NOT SCRATCH AT ALL. I can’t believe it. But it’s one of those things that the thought of even TOUCHING it… it would just itch so much more if I touched it and I would have to scratch it to the point where there was blood.

        • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 1, 2017, 8:18 pm

Well, I mean, you know me well enough to know that I don’t half-ass ANYTHING. So… if I got poison ivy, I wouldn’t just scratch it, I’d probably saw off the body part or light it on fire. I have no doubt I’d end up with some sort of secondary infection. HA! So your self control is quite impressive.

I have no waist, so you can only imagine how uncomfortable I was during the last couple of weeks. With my second pregnancy, I sat in my OBs office crying and begging him to induce me. I think I scared him.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 1, 2017, 8:16 pm

Did he? Did he end up inducing you? I got induced with Callum (at 37 weeks because of bleeding issues) and I HATED it. It was horrific.

  • Susie @ Suzlyfe August 2, 2017, 4:46 am

Second paragraph is me every night. I HATE THAT FEELING

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 2, 2017, 7:28 pm

      It’s not lit.

  • Gretchen August 2, 2017, 5:24 am

Ugh that sounds awful. Is that a normal pregnancy symptom? Just wondering so I know more of the fun that could be ahead for me some day…

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 2, 2017, 7:28 pm

      Yeah, it’s normal. Super lame.

  • Marina @ Happy Healing August 2, 2017, 8:48 am

I’m glad to hear that running is making you feel better! I’ve never been pregnant but it’s interesting hearing about your experience! Have a great Wednesday 🙂

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 2, 2017, 7:27 pm

      Thank you Marina!

  • Ana August 2, 2017, 10:06 am

It’s ok to whine, it gets those thoughts out of our heads!

I am going to whine about work, for the last few days, people call me and ask me if I’m busy… my sarcastic response always wants to be “No, I have been sitting at my desk, just waiting for your call!”

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 2, 2017, 7:26 pm

HA HA HA! I love how cheeky you are!

  • Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets August 2, 2017, 10:09 am

Try drinking some milk or eating a little bit of ice cream. It might help with the reflux. Then again, I suspect you’ve tried everything by now. You’re kind of a pro at this.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 2, 2017, 7:26 pm

Ice cream helps, even if it’s only emotional assistance. 🙂

  • Laura @ This Runner's Recipes August 2, 2017, 2:21 pm

You barely whine, but I don’t blame you for not liking indigestion! Sometimes I get a bit of it and whine like a baby about it the whole time. I’ve had some indigestion this week from cough medicine (which never agrees with my stomach either) and can’t even get a full cup of coffee down. I hope you feel better!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 2, 2017, 7:26 pm

Oh, coffee is really bad for indigestion issues. You’re still sick?! THAT SUCKS.

  • San August 2, 2017, 3:29 pm

I don’t know what it’s like to be pregnant or birth babies, but it totally makes sense to me that you need to be at a certain level of discomfort when your due date comes around… otherwise one would completely freak out about delivering baby through that small opening in your body… LOL

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com August 2, 2017, 7:25 pm

YES! We need some incentive, because if we’re too comfortable then we won’t have that extra push.

  • Allie Capo-Burdick August 3, 2017, 2:56 am

Woman!! I so remember those days!! I had no room in my stomach for food and it would take like an hour to eat a carrot and then I would be nauseous for the rest of the week.
All I can say is, you look amazing and soon you will be rewarded for this effort!!! xoxo
