Week in Review

Hey hey hey! I’m a little late on this one, I’m sorry! Andrew and I just came back into our hotel room and collapsed onto our cool sheets in a sorry attempt to soothe our sunburns. And when I say sunburns, I mean we got frigging ROASTED. I got so into my book by the pool that I forgot to rotate my burgeoning body like a rotisserie chicken and ended up scorching my body in a straight line. Super. Apparently Andrew’s burn isn’t causing him much grief as he’s sawing logs beside me while I front-load my calories with Toblerone and peanut M&Ms before I succumb the inevitable heat-induced nausea.

Don’t feel sorry for me for one rainy second though. We’re enjoying our trip immensely.

Here’s this week’s Week in Review hosted by my dear friend Meghan from Clean Eats Fast Feets! While most of the highlights were concentrated on our trip to Arizona, I do have a story to tell from earlier on in the week.

We heard that Bosley’s, our local pet store, was hiring and so Jake got his resume and cover letter together and I brought him in to drop it off. He dressed nicely, and combed his hair except the problem with our hair is that combing it doesn’t make it better–it makes it bigger. I roared with laughter as I watched him walk out with his hair in the air and took a video and put it on Instagram. Here’s a screenshot:

If they don’t hire them, they’re fools. Ha ha!

We set our alarms for 4:15 on Saturday morning and headed to the airport. Andrew’s parents are watching Callum for us and our older kids are with their other parents. It’s tough being away from Callum as he’s still so young but Andrew’s parents assure us that he’s having a great time. I don’t want to talk about him–I’ll get too sad.

Once we got to Phoenix we beelined it for the pool and soaked up some sun. Then we met my cousins and their baby for Mexican food, which was amazing. We were in bed early that night because we had to set our alarms again for an early morning for the race the next day! The race was great. We took it easy, and I had a bit of cramping so even though I ran 13 miles, I didn’t go through the finish line as all I cared about was hydrating my uterus. In all honesty, I had to ditch Andrew at about the 10-11 mile mark so that I could get back to the finish, and I didn’t want to cross the line without him. It just felt wrong. So I watched him come in and then we jumped in the cab back to our hotel where we got to meet Helly again! She also raced that morning but she PR’d the crap out of a 5K in and around Chase stadium. She keeps getting faster and faster. It was SO NICE of her to stick around after her race so that we could give each other some hugs and say hi.

Andrew and I showered and then headed over to Chase stadium ourselves to watch the Diamondbacks play the Cleveland Indians.

We were mostly there for the food and it showed, because we left before the game started. Don’t ask which inning; it’s embarrassing. Then we spent the rest of the day by the pool and went out for dinner to a place called Oregano’s (I usually DGAF about food but this place? WAS PHENOMENAL). Because I’m not a food blogger, I don’t feel pressured to take photos of food.

Well, I’m off to apply ice packs to my already blistering feet. We’re heading home tomorrow, and right after I smother my babies with kisses and love, I’ll get up a weekly pregnancy post for you guys.

When and where did you get your worst sunburn?

Have you ever had to sit beside a grossly overweight person and their body mass was spilling into your seat, and you yourself could not fit into the seat you paid for? I’m asking for a friend.

I’m SO HAPPY you liked Oregano’s!!! I always get nervous suggesting food places but my go-to never fails is Oregano’s. They’re food is just amazeballs. Squeezing you was the icing to my PR cake!! <3

Oh Helly, we’re going to be fantasizing about Oregano’s for months until we can get back down here again! It was AMAZING!

Hmmm….worst sunburn? Don’t laugh, but it would have to be in Milwaukee, when I was a freshman at Marquette. It was one of those teaser days in April. We were all by the lakefront, drinking and playing volleyball. I got sizzled. I didn’t use sunscreen, because, Wisconsin. Funny thing is, I’ve been sunburned in Florida and Arizona, but I always use some kind of sunscreen, so it has never been as bad as that one.

It’s those teaser days that sneak up on us ill-prepared and get us good!

Worst sunburn was in Panama, on Outreach in Gr 10. Since then, I burn way more easily so I’m never far from my waterproof, sweatproof SPF 8000 sunscreen. My face, ears, scalp, shoulders, back and chest were burned. Sleeping on cotton sheets hurt.

Everything I put on my face has an SPF in it! Daily moisturizer, matte-fying lotion, BB cream and foundation!

What’s BB cream? I think I should probably follow your lead. My skin looks haggard and sun damaged enough to get me blended into an old folks home.

I got a terrible sunburn some years ago at a friend’s pool. The worst is when the tops of your feet burn and it hurts to wear shoes! Also, I’ve gotten sunburn on my scalp before and that hurts as well when you wash your hair, yikes. I try to be more careful in the sun now thankfully.

It sounds like you had a great weekend away in Phoenix and neat you got to see Helly in real life, I just started following her blog. I hope Jake gets the job too!

We got to meet Helly in real life last year, too when we were down here for the Rock n Roll marathon in January. She’s a wonderful girl, and it’s been really neat to see her race times go down each time she runs. Pretty incredible!

Bueno!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 11, 2017, 6:39 am

Oh, we’re going to have to put that place on our list for next time. Anything you guys recommend HAS to be good!

Worst sunburn was when I was a kid and couldn’t wait to let sunscreen set in and instead jumped into the lake and it all washed off. It wasn’t in bad places though. I have burned my tush. When I was on marine bio, we went to a beach, the boys applied sunscreen… then we finished early and they took their shirts off and didn’t reapply. So they had inverse farmer’s tans.
And the seat thing? happens to me more often than not because I’m a tiny person.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 11, 2017, 6:37 am

Oh, so they think they can just put you anywhere, because you fit anywhere? Lame.

I’ve had multiple awful sunburns. Once I even took a nap at a beach and woke up with the right side of my body burnt. I got so badly burnt during swim lessons as a child that my entire back was peeling. And that’s why we live in Seattle now…okay not really, but it does help!

  • GiGi Eats April 11, 2017, 5:25 pm

YOU are going to have to show me a pic of your sun burn so we can compare! I WAS DYING last week – LOL!

  • San April 15, 2017, 3:15 pm

That sounds like such a fun time! I haven’t been out sun-bathing in ages…. but my worst sunburn was probably when I was 20 years old and vacationing on the Canary Islands. I was using SPF 50 and still got a sun-burn.

  • Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets April 18, 2017, 4:03 pm

Despite the sunburn it sounds like you had a wonderful trip. How was it leaving Callum now that it’s all said and done?

Also how am I this far behind on your blog?! Eek.
