We’ll All Have Another

I’m a bit obsessed with Lindsey Hein. Do you guys know her? She runs the podcast “I’ll Have Another” and I love listening to it because it feels like I’m right there with her and the person she’s interviewing. Okay, I know what I’m trying to say: she talks to us not at us.

Her Instagram stories are hilarious too because I so relate to her life. She doesn’t post pretty stuff all the time, actually, ever. Ha ha! But I love it that way because she makes me feel normal! At one time all three of her kids will be draped across her tiny body while she balances an empty wine glass in the hand she’s not using to hold the camera. Or she will scan her phone across the living room and her boys are dancing around in rubber boots and riding around in laundry baskets. Anyway, she’s great. I feel a bit stalker-ish, but it goes with the territory. Whenever she likes one of my posts I start running around the house shouting, “LINDSEY HEIN LIKED MY POST!!!” It’s true. Ask my family.

At the end of her podcast episodes she asks her interviewee a couple of questions and so I’m going to be a good little stalker and copy her here and I’ll answer the questions myself and then I want you guys to answer them too!

What are you loving lately?

I’m totally into positive-thinking right now. Like, disciplining my mind and emotions to not ruminate on all the bullshit but to approach life with gratefulness. Not fake and cheery, HELL NO; I’ve got to mean it with my guts. Having this perspective has changed my life, for real. It feels good.

What are you not so loving lately?

Dry skin from this cold weather and having to lather petroleum jelly all over my body. It’s sticky.

What shows are you into?

Documentaries! I recently watched something called “Minimalism” and I absolutely loved it. The second half is better than the first, so make sure you stick it out. I’m halfway through “The Mask You Live In” which is about how hard it is for boys to become men surrounded with all of these destructive expectations. It’s good too. A crier, for sure.

If there’s one person you could choose to have a drink with, who would it be?

No, not Chris Farley. I know, I know. Shocking. I’d choose my grandma Douglas, and it would have to be tea, which is fine. I wear her wedding ring on a necklace around my neck. One Christmas when my dad was still in the throes of his alcoholism, he came late via taxi (a smart choice, I give him that), stumbled in through the front door and collapsed onto the couch. My grandma, without hesitation, sat down beside him, lifted his head and placed it onto her lap and started singing softly to him. She loved my dad and he loved her. She died (in the arms of my grandpa) in a tragic car accident when I was only eight years old. My grandpa passed away two years later from a broken heart. My dad has forwarded her love and grace to me many times, and to many others.

Okay, your turn! Pick one or all questions to answer!

I’ve heard of this podcast but never listened to it! I will have to give it a try. Your grandmother sounds like she was amazing!

Lindsey is great! Go back to the first few she did. She interviews some great people.

First, yes of course I love Lindsey and have for a long time, for all the reasons you mentioned and more.
I HAVE to watch both of the documentaries you mentioned and I have like a 300 plane ride to Hawaii coming up so perfect timing.
I would love to have a drink with my mom since I was 17 when she died and never even got to have one adult beverage together…well, I have them in my mind all the time but I’m guessing that doesn’t count for this question 🙂 xo

    Yeah you WILL have another.
I loved Lindsay for a while, then I kind of got off with her. Maybe I’ll try again. What am I loving right now. Daycare for Ridley when it is disgusting outside. SERIOUS lifesaver (for all of us).
And I’m majorly back on the oatmeal train.
    OMG and roasted eggplant.

I’m into oatmeal again right now too. I NEED IT. Roasted eggplant? Ha ha. weirdo.

I’m all about positive thinking these days–I just ordered a positive energy wrist wrap from Momentum to remind myself. How sad is that?

You probably wouldn’t want to drink with Chris Farley–trust me, he wasn’t someone we welcomed to our parties in college…

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com January 24, 2017, 9:19 am

You make me laugh! I love that you ordered that wrist wrap. That’s not lame at all!

I’m glad you have a podcast you really enjoy! I love when podcasts get to be “homey” and comforting. 🙂

I am loving trying to be a good teacher even though my mind is elsewhere. It is a challenge.
I am not loving all this dreary weather.
Shows I am into… CNN. 🙁 I want to be engaged but it is ENRAGING.
I wish I could have a drink with my grandpa. He died about 15 years ago. I never knew him as an “adult” I only knew him as a kid. I think it would have been really cool if adult Megan could share a drink with her grandpa.

The dreary weather takes such a toll on our emotions especially when we’re already struggling with life!

Lindsey is so authentic and just fun in her podcast! I am watching old episodes of Good Eats and being a total food science nerd right now. I am loving snowboarding and snowshoeing and apres beers. But I am not loving the news and political ish.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com January 25, 2017, 8:31 am

I haven’t heard of Good Eats. I bet Andrew would like a show like that! I’ll check it out!

What are you loving lately? – sounds weird, but running and training in general. I’ve never been THIS in love with running and I just feel like I’m getting in optimal shape. Usually I burn out after a few weeks of hard training, but this time I’m ALL IN.

What are you not so loving lately? – Waiting for my beer to ferment. Seriously I just want to try out the beer we made but you have to wait FOREVER for it to be ready. So impatient.

What shows are you into? – Dan and I are re-watching old seasons of Amazing Race (not sure if you get that in Canada). And also writing our application to be on the show.

If there’s one person you could choose to have a drink with, who would it be? – is this even a question? Hands down, YOU! If I was told I could meet any person for a drink right now you would be my first answer.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com January 25, 2017, 6:38 pm

Oh I have ZERO patience. Andrew and I would go through a case of beer just waiting for ours to ferment.

I hope you guys get into the show! That would be so cool! I’ve heard of it but as you know, I don’t watch much TV at all. I’m lame. And awe, I’d LOVE to have a drink with you. <3 <3 <3 We will definitely make it happen again one day soon, I know it.

  • Ana January 25, 2017, 12:33 pm

oh my god! that is an amazing story about your grandma! And I have to check out those documentaries ASAP!

I’m loving the rhythm of my life right now. I am not feeling like things are in a rush, and enjoying the quiet moments of just sitting with my son watching him do his homework. We are in a good grove of things right now.

I’m watching Happy Endings, that show makes me laugh so hard!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com January 25, 2017, 6:40 pm

Having a boy, I think you’ll really appreciate the documentary about the masks! I’m so happy for you that you feel peaceful about your life right now. You’re a great person and deserve all the tacos and all the happy moments.

I’m loving Moscow Mules and not loving teething, although thus far today is going much better than yesterday. Hallelujah.
