Woozy Wednesday: Stacey Talks Boston

I met up with Stacey again and I learned a lot about protein.

Who uses protein powder? What kind? How?

How do you prevent your nipples from poking out through your shirt?

Padded bras!!!

I can’t listen to this now because Alex is asleep and we are still in our convertible apartment thus he could hear, but rest assured I am coming back. I don’t use protein powder unless I am baking, but I’ve got a bunch from doing reviews. And lined, not padded, bras. Otherwise, there’s not much you can do.

Yeah I get kinda annoyed when people post videos on their blog. I’m like, I’m a blog READER, not a blog video watcher. So frustrating. I’m sorry.

Haha! I really thought this was going to be your actual friend Stacey schooling you on protein. 🙂

Most of the time I eat straight up chicken for protein because I am a hungry girl and like to eat. When I get sick of eating chicken after I lift (around 7am… totally not the time of day I’m craving chicken) I use whey protein powder. I do one whole scoop which is about 120-150 cals and around 20g of protein. Ways I eat it: mix it with oatmeal (after you cook the oatmeal), mix it with milk, make a shake with protein, water, ice and a banana. I normally just crave cereal/carbs for bfast even if I lift instead of run, but I have a hard rule that I allllllways eat my protein after lifting. Otherwise, what was the point of the workout??

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 20, 2016, 8:05 am

Yep, I know that protein rule very well. I never used to care about it because I never really ran hard enough to do any sort of real damage to my muscle fibres, so I didn’t care about repairing them but now that I’m doing these tempo runs and speed workouts, I KNOW I need protein. I wish protein powder companies handed out samples so that I could try them without spending all that money on a huge tub that I won’t use. ARGH!

I feel like they all taste pretty much the same. Do you have friends that could give you a little plastic baggie from their loot to sample?

        • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 20, 2016, 1:59 pm

My friends don’t do the protein powder thing. I think they use chicken wings.

Ok i’m going to talk about nipples because this is your blog and I feel like we’re on that level that we can discuss these things. I am SO self conscious about people seeing my nipples during runs..it’s probably what I worry about the most when I get dressed to run. And of course if I find something I feel good in and I get home the first thing Dan will say is “I can see your nipples”. WHY!?

And thus concludes the most awkward comment I’ve ever left on a blog.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 20, 2016, 8:03 am

HA HA HA HA! I puffy heart you. Okay so I totally get your problem. My boobs have been stretched out so many times with pregnancy and breastfeeding that now that they’re saggy little things, I have to actually stand in front of a mirror and position them in my sports bra before I leave the house. Sometimes just for fun, I’ll do my party trick where I point one nipple way off to the left and down and the other one way off to the right and up, and then ask Andrew if my nipples are centred.

      Nipples are so annoying.

This was so great! I could never get my husband to do something like that. I do weightlifting in combination with running so I do use protein powder. I love mixing in cookies and cream powder with my oatmeal. It makes it taste more like a dessert!

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 20, 2016, 8:01 am

It’s more Andrew convincing ME to do it. Ha ha! I really need to find a protein powder that I like. What kind do you use?

  • Laura @ This Runner's Recipes April 20, 2016, 9:44 am

Love these videos! Since I can say this on your blog, I associate protein powders with gas. Whey, soy, pea—any and all of it makes for an angry tummy. I love eggs and chia seeds for protein after a run and Greek yogurt, lentils, chicken, fish, and more eggs during the rest of the day.
Lined sports bras or just a f*ck it I’m running attitude if only unlined sports bras are clean.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 20, 2016, 2:01 pm

I’m really offended and grossed out by your gas references because you didn’t use the word FART. Ha ha. Kidding. When I grew up, we had to call them “noises.” Like instead of saying, “I farted” we’d have to say, “I did a noise.” You can see why I rebelled.

  • Heather@hungryforbalance April 20, 2016, 10:30 am

I am always SO PARANOID that my nipples will be sticking out while I’m up on stage teaching. So much so that sometimes I add a little extra padding to the bra to make sure.
The last time I went to The Vitamin Shop to buy protein powder, the last gave me a sample of the one I was interested in. That was the first time that’s happened, but I was grateful because it ended up upsetting my stomach.

    • suzy.suzyheather@gmail.com April 20, 2016, 2:00 pm

Oh!!!! Okay that’s a really good idea! I’ll ask for samples next time. Thank you! Oh, and I know someone with three nipples. Imagine having all three stick out!

  • Allison Fiorini April 27, 2016, 7:55 am

OMG THIS IS TOO MUCH. I have a nipple issue. I need my nipples to not be out and in my running pictures they ALWAYS USED TO BE. I have learned to either wear a lined sports bra (most Lululemon bras have it) or I band aid the shit out of my nips before a race.

I’m with Stacey – no powdered protein for me! I used to have some protein powder but I just never liked the taste. I heard that a good protein powder comes from Arbonne, though. Maybe I’ll try it!

  • Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets April 27, 2016, 4:49 pm

I’m with Stacy. It’s whole food protein or bust. Plus my nipples could give hers a run for their money right now.
